  • Various broken things with vray 3.5 - possible fix found

    Hi,

i ve recently had nightmare with certain scenes once we updated from 3.4 to 3.5 from which the most painful were:

    Fur issues
    http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...-broken-in-3-5

    Render mask issues
    http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...Y-AS-BOX-is-ON

Forest Pack Issues and some other bit.

If i had any hair left i woudl probably be bald right now anyway because i coudl not for nothing make it work and Tashko is my witness that the Dragon scene was just a mystery.

Anyway, i have found that most of these problems coudl be solved by remeging the scene.

Something is not right here i have never had probléms with my scene after updating to a new vray but this time i am having hell with almost any scene i touch that has been started in 3.4

Any idea what coudl be going there?

The fur is really weirs as well as the render mask problém.

    Cheers!
    M

The fur problem is fixed for 3.50.04; not sure about the render mask scene - will have to debug the original scene to see what's the issue.

    Best regards,

Regarding the Render Mask issue: I've checked the communication on the other forum thread as well as on the email and the conclusion is that this is a isolated case which occurs randomly even on your machine and doesn't occur at all into our environment. The issue disappears when scene is merged into a new one according your latest posts, did it appear again into the same or into another scene?

We'll open a new issue into our system and will attach the scene you sent us for further investigation from our developers.

Well it looks like i spoke too fast.
I opened the freshly marged and fixed sceen this morning and the fur is gone again :-/
Is that the fur problém you have talked about Vlado?
I am using lots of bercon noise in the fur object for bends and initial direction so i cant really use vrayhdri bitmap loader to see if it fixes the problém or not.

Hopefully the new release will be working with this bug...

Another thing that i see problematic is initial state of the fur object display.

Basically you cant see the fur strands at all when you open the scene...you have to copy the entire fur object for them to appear and delete the previous object.

Anyway its not rendergin either way

                  Just a general comment...

Even since the 3.0 upgrade, and especially when we went to the new sampler, I have been bitten many times by an issue similar to this - all kinds of weird things not working correctly. These days, every time I go to use and older file, I start with a brand-new reset file and merge the file's elements from there.

                  Haven't a problem since...

                  FWIW...

I also try to do that. Usually it works fine but legacy issues are a b**** to track down. I sincerely am very happy how Chaosgroup handles legacy scenes. It almost always works and renders the exact same way as it did years ago. If I could I would ditch all legacy stuff and force people to use the most recent stuff all the time but unfortunately that is not possible in a production environment :P. But I guess it would give developers much less headache.

                      Agree with everything you said...

I did it again today with an older file and got Lens Effects to work correctly...
