  • IPR problem with blended box map

Max's own BBM doesn't work properly with the IPR.

The mapping shifts as soon as you enable the IPR.

See sample scene. Render normally. Engage IPR and watch the map move.

    It seems to be fine!

It seems identical here as well. Which V-Ray version are you using? Can you attach the outputs?

Very strange. It's completely reproducible here. I just render the perspective viewport in that provided scene. And then click the IPR button in buffer and the map changes. It's 3.50.04. Images here. It's not shifting by a lot but it's definitely shifting (or scaling). Left side is regular. Right side is IPR.

This seems to still be an issue in V-Ray Next update 3 as well (max 201.
Shifting from IPR to Bucket renders two vastly different results (when using a large map scale) when using the native 3ds max Blended Box Map.

This had something to with the "Work in camera space" option in the System tab and I still haven't had a chance to look into it. The VRayTriplanar texture should work fine though.

                Best regards,
                Vlado

Sorry to dredge up an old thread but I've just run into this same issue with the discrepancy between the IPR and production render using the blended box map. Is there any news on this?

I'd be all for using a VRayTriplanar texture but I've been using smoke as a blend map on the BBM and can't see how to replicate this.

Nothing new I'm afraid, I didn't find a way to fix it yet. But we can add the ability to use a blend map to the triplanar texture.

                    Best regards,
                    Vlado

Sorry, forgot to reply. Thanks Vlado, that would be very useful.
