  • DR Licence/spawner

    Hey guys,

I've recently updated our render nodes to 3.50.04 and one of the nodes can't obtain a licence.

I have no idea why it can't obtain a licence (it was working before the update, and the other nodes appear to be fine). We REALLY need this to be working ASAP as we have a competition deadline tomorrow morning!

Nobody else had any trouble with licences after upgrading to 3.5.04?

There are two reasons for this particular error - either a firewall/router blocking the connection to the V-Ray license server or the other reason could be insufficient licenses.

Regarding the firewall/router - you need to make sure you have connection on port 30304 from the node to the V-Ray license server.

Can you tell us how many Render node licenses you have and any how many machines are being used to render?

We have 3 node licences between 3 render nodes.

They were all working fine before we updated to 3.5 - our firewall/router settings haven't changed, to my knowledge.

[edit] I just opened up http://localhost:30304/#/bundle/rendernode30 and it appears all three licences are in use, even though I've turned off the node that isn't working. It's worth noting that the node that wasn't working earlier now IS working, and the one the was working now ISN'T - so the problem must be on my local machine that is hosting the licences?

[Edit 2] It appears that after a while the licence does become free again - at which point I turned the node back on, but it just sits there and doesn't do anything and my local machine tells me it's frozen, though from the server log it doesn't appear to have even recieved any file/info to begin rendering.

I just found one of the render nodes had crashed with a windows error saying the machine was too low on ram. Could it be that this crash is tying up a licence?

Thank you so much for the offer, I just had to go with using the progressive sampler and setting a time limit for each render - seems to have worked perfectly despite the server not working.

Found the culprit. Problem exists between chair and computer - though not my chair or computer.

My colleague didn't have the VR license service installed/running, so his machine was using my/render nodes license.
