  • Help needed: Optimising the geometry and materials imported from Cinema 4D

    Hello,
We have tons of geometry imported from Cinema with three problems:

    1. All the bitmaps are inside the Composite map. Composite map has to be removed from the material
    2. The groups from Cinema are imported as Dummy objects with proper hierarchy of Group objects as children. They need to be transferred into proper Max Groups
    3. VRay scene converter does not convert The Specular Highlighs parameters of Standard materials properly

Does anybody faced the same problem? We have a feeling that all of them can be solved through the scripting but unfortunately we have no knowledge how to do it.

The zip archive with 3ds Max 16 file is attached.

    FromCinema.zip

    Any help will be appreciated

    Hello,
I'll take a look to the scene and will let you know if there is an easy way for solving those issues. What method did you use for importing the objects and the materials form C4D to 3ds max? It'll be very helpful if you can provide us with the c4d scene too.

        Hi Ivan,
Did you have a look at the scene and could you suggest any workaround regarding our issues?
        Thank you

          Hi,
I took a look to the scenes, but unfortunately the importing of the bitmaps, materials and groups from fbx is entirely handled by 3Ds max and there is no easy way from the V-Ray side to convert the dummies to groups or to remove all the composite maps. In Cinema4D the group themselves are dummy objects so it's logical for them to be imported like dummies.
For the converting of the materials there might be some differences in the spectacular highlights since in the Standart material there are a few separate options for the Specular highlights like Level, Color, Glossiness, Soften etc. which should somehow be converted in VRayMtl where there are less options for them. Can you give me some example materials from the scenes you shared, that don't convert like you want so I can show the to our devs and ask if there is something that can be done about that?

            Hi Ivan,
            Thanks for you help.
By my assumption for removing Composite map and Regrouping the objects there should be 2-3 lines of script code. Unfortunately, we are not familiar with scripting so that's why we asked for help in forum.
As for materials, we have the example materials inside the archive attached in the first message.
Please see the screenshot of material before and after conversion
            Thank you

              Hello,
I've passed the issue with the specular conversion to our developers and we will be working on it. I'll let you know as soon as we have any solution to it.
