  • Hair and Fur UV's not displaying correctly

    Hi,

From what I can see when I set the Hair and Fur modifier to mr prim the Vray Hair Mat does not read the UV's (from a UV Unwrapped object) correctly. If I set this to geometry then it reads the UV's correctly.

Is this something that can be replicated by someone else?

    Cheers

    Hello!

Thank you for reporting this issue. It's already logged in our system but there is still no delevopment on it. This setup is only working with 3ds Max 2014 and earlier versions at the moment. If this is important for your work I'll increase the priority of this issue.
I recommend using VRayFur instead of the modifier.

    Best regards,
    Margarita

      Hi there,

Thanks for letting me know, I did read back quite a few forum pages and tried a search with no results before posting and thought this feature to be working as it states in the documentation.

I was intending to use 3ds max Hair & Fur with characters and reading the documentation on VrayFur this makes it an unsuitable choice due to the simple settings. I would appreciate it if the priority was moved up (with the rug images it would work unfortunately not with detailed hair and fur styles).

It would be very helpful to have a note in the documentation stating that this feature has an unresolved issue and will only work in geometry mode.

Thanks so much for your quick reply.

      Cheers

        Hello!

Thank you for the detailed answer. The issue is updated to higher piority now and we'll also update the documentation shortly.
Another idea, you probably already know that V-Ray works with some hair styling plugins. If you have access to HairFarm or Ornatrix they might be even better for you than the Hair and Fur modifier.

        Best regards,

I'm not sure we can actually do anything about it, as the problem seems to be in the Shave&Haircut libraries. I would suggest looking at other hair/fur options like VRayFur or Ornatrix.

            Hi,

Thanks for raising the priority, that will save me a lot of time instead of having to redo styles using a different hair plugin. I am looking into those 2 plugins for future projects - thanks for that suggestion!

            Cheers

Edit: just read that post, looks like Ornatrix or Hairfarm then, Vrayfur as you state in your documentation is unfortunately not really designed for detailed character styles but simple hair simulation

Well, you posted an image of a carpet, which is why I suggested VRayFur It's definitely no good for long character hair.

Oh sorry for any confusion I did mention that I was intending to use hair solutions with characters.

You mentioned Vray works with Ornatrix, can you confirm that it still works with Hairfarm please?

Thanks very much for clearing that up for me!

                Cheers
