  • iToo Forest disappear when starting IPR

    Hey guys,
everytime I start IPR Mode my Forest objects disappear. They do render but are no longer visible in my viewport, so I can't move them around. Is this normal behavior? Or have I missed an option?

    System: iToo Forest 5.3 Vray 3.50.04 3ds max 2017

It would be best to talk to iToo directly about this.

I wrote the same question in the iToo forum and got the following answer:

      ---
Hi, yes this is the normal behaviour actually.

V-Ray IPR uses a mixed mode between viewport and render, which is not supported by Forest. Our plugin generates a different set of items for each mode, and only one of them can exist at time.
Unfortunately there is not a simple solution to fix that, but is in the wishlist for next versions.

By the way, same problem happens with Corona Interactive.

I know this isn't IPR related but I've noticed the error initialization in stage 2 using RT if I lower the distribution density value (basically adding more geometry). Has anyone else reported this? Thanks

            Hello,

We've found a bug related to forest export to RT and it should be fixed very soon. Just in case - can you send us a scene that gives you that error so we can check if the fix works (you could send it to our support).

            Best regards,

sent. Regarding the RT/IPR workflows, I really like the idea of the IPR button in the frame buffer. But since the addition of the IPR, this bug in RT has kinda messed up my workflow. I do several renders a day with only a few computers to help. And with the amount of revisions and designing I don't have the luxury of brute force renders because of the noise\time. Not to say that BF hasn't improved - it's definitely my "go to" setting for final renders with lots of geometry detail. So I basically work in IR+LC as I'm designing the shots. And what I like about RT, is it's BF and I can activate it with 2 clicks in the viewport. This allows me to get BF quality with progressive sampling in a small window. The benefit here is 2 clicks and near immediate results in a small viewport so it revises fast. IPR uses the GI settings so it needs to build LC and IR which is slower and takes up more screen real estate instead of embedding as an extended viewport. So IPR isn't very useful for me as a design tool. More clicks and more screen real estate. Also, with the latest forest pro/IPR workflow, forest pro won't show in viewport which makes precision editing more difficult. My question is, will RT stay as is (at least before the forest pro bug) or will IPR adopt some of the features RT has like separate GI settings and extended viewport? Thanks so much for all your help!!!!

We will work on an extended viewport for the IPR for sure. I'm not quite sure about the GI settings yet.
