  • Computer Freeze

Is there anything that can be done about my whole computer freezing up when I render using V-Ray? I can't even type an email or surf the web. It'll move but freeze for several seconds over and over. It got worse with the Windows 10 Creative update. Just an FYI, it doesn't happen with other render engines. I don't mind V-Ray using all my resources, but not when I need to do simple tasks while it is rendering. Just a question

you can try removing 1 of your cores under set affinity of the 3dsmax process in the task manager

Removing a core stopped working in Window 10 a long time ago. I did set low priority, which seems to have helped. I tried that before, when it wasn't that bad and it did nothing. Now, since it got bad, it seems to help.

        Hello,

The right way to remove a core from the rendering would be to tell V-Ray to use one core less and not through the affinity.

About the core - you can see two options in this topic here:

Thank you Yavor. Actually, I think the low priority did the trick. I am writing this while a rendering is going, which wasn't possible before I ticked it.

It was mentioned before and it was something about being able to use more than a # of cores in the later V-Ray builds.
