  • Glass in MultiSubs and Skylight

    Hello,
I think I remember a conversation a while back about some v-ray materials that are inside multi-subobject materials don't behave as they are expected to. I think vraylight materials was one of them. Are there any issues with glass or refractive type materials in multi-subs also? I just can't seem to get the natural skylight to come through. I mean, light is coming through and all, it just seems to behave differently than if the window were deleted and there was just an opening or if I place a vraylight and check "portal". I'm using 3.5 with Max 2017. Any thoughts?
    Thanks, Dave

There used to be issues with refractive materials with fog inside a multi-subobject materials, but these were fixed a long time ago.

It would be good if you can post a specific example of the issues you are having.

Sorry Vlado, I did some more thorough testing this morning and the differences between glass on/off and portal on/off are negligible. However, I am noticing something strange that when I add a Vraylight in front of the window and turn it on (no portal) that I no longer see the original skylight coming through, as if the vraylight object is somehow blocking the effects of the scene skylight? I can send you a sample file if you like.

This is normal, it needs to be a portal to see the skylight through it. Another solution would be to exclude the light from the trace set of the glass, but it's more complicated to do it.

        Best regards,
        Vlado
