  • Renderings washed out in Vray Frame buffer

    Hi,

I have an issue with vray, and that is the rendering looks washed out in the frame buffer. is it a Gamma issue and how can i solve it? or is it something else?

Most answers online are referring to it as a Gamma problem, but no matter what i do it's not fixed.

Any help would be appreciated. thanks

    Hello,

You certainly have gamma applied twice. For example, if Color Mapping is set on Color Mapping & Gamma mode (gamma correction applied a first time), and also VFB option Display Colors in sRGB Space activated (gamma correction applied a second time).

My color mapping settings are reinhard with gamma 2.2 and burn value 1.0. the sRGB option in frame buffer is switched off.

is the Gamma/LUT option inside 3ds Max has any affect in this case, and what is correct here? should i switch it off or on and if on what settings should i use to work properly with Vray? Thanks

Ok, but what is your Color Mapping mode ? Color Mapping and Gamma / Color Mapping only / None (don't apply anything) ?
Is the Linear Workflow option (Color Mapping rollout) unchecked ?
In 3dsmax Preference Settings, Gamma and LUT tab, Enable Gamma/LUT Correction should be checked, Gamma set to 2.2.

the Mode is color mapping only and the linear workflow option is unchecked ..
Gamma/ LUT enabled and set to 2.2 ..

          Anything wrong with these settings?

All the settings looks fine to me but maybe we are missing something.
The latest versions of V-Ray and 3dsMax are with Linear Workflow setup by default, so if you haven't deviated from the defaults everything should be fine.
Let's try this, open a new instance of 3dsMax, add a few basic primitives and without changing anything render scene and see if it looks fine in VFB as well as in the outputted file.

If everything is OK then there might be something in the scene you are working on, it could be gamma for sure but it could be also in the lighting setup.
It would be very helpful if you could send us a stripped down version of the scene for investigation, that way we will be able to see all the parameters and will find out where the culprit is much more effectively.

Thanks a lot for the reply. i actually started a new scene and everything was fine. but i will provide you with the original one anyway for investigation.
