  • LUT affects loaded background image in VFB

    Hey,
I don't know if this is the intended behaviour or not, but it seems strange: Loading a LUT file also affects the background image that I have loaded in VFB. This is not the case with all the other corrections like exposure, white balance, curves and so on. But LUT also affects the background. Is this a bug or is there some other way to disable that.

    Regards

    Hey Oliver,

I can confirm the problem, thanks!
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

      Hello,

Color corrections are applied one by one, using the following fixed order: Levels, White Balance, Exposure, Curve, Hue/Saturation, Color Balance, Background, LUT, sRGB, ICC, OCIO.
LUT, sRGB, ICC and OCIO ("display" corrections) are applied last in order to be able to correct the render result and background at the same time.

        So the behavior is correct?
Okay, can I disable this, so that the LUT doesn't have an effect on the background?
Reason is: I have a background delivered from the client. The client can not deliver these backgrounds without these LUTs. In order to match my rendered image to the background as closely as possible, I apply the same LUT to the VFB. Now, the background has the LUT applied twice and I will not be able to match my rendered elements correctly.

The behavior is expected. Unfortunately it could not be disabled and the order of color correction application currently cannot be changed.
I see that it is not useful in your case. But if background is applied last then it would not be possible to apply sRGB to linear background image and render result at the same time.

            VFB2 shouldn't have this issue.

Not sure whether this will help but there are methods/software to reverse the LUT, which can work with some and not others.
Could be worth checking out if it is crucial.
They really should have given you an uncorrected plate though I guess
