Simple interior scene using physical camera, vray sun and vray sky in the vray environment slot. When setting the camera viewport to display " High Quality", use scene lights, shadow, AO the viewport display is very dark. nothing like the rendering or even default shading. See examples below. Is this normal? I'm wondering if I have some setting/user preference that needs to be changed.

Hi and thanks for your reply. I'm not expecting the viewport to calc GI. I'm trying to determine if my system viewport display is similar to what others using vray experience. It's so dark that I wonder if there is a setting or preference that i should adjust to compensate for this. Or if my system is not set up properly. Or, that's just the way it is because, as you point out, the viewport does not calc the GI. Possibly some compensation for using vray GI could be made so that the "Use Scene Lighting" is not so dark in the viewport?
The AO from that menu does not seem to have any effect, whether on or off. Probably due to what you point out above.mark f.
