  • Correct method for enabling object motion blur?

    Hi all,

I wish to enable object motion blur only as I also have a camera moving which causes stationary objects to also blur. So I only wish to have the objects that are moving to be blurred. I don't see any option in the Physical Camera (3ds Max 2017) to do this? There are camera settings in the V-Ray roll out which allows me to keep camera motion blur disabled but this doesn't work with the physical camera, unless I am missing a trick?

    Thanks,

    Hi,

Set the motion blur samples of the camera to 1 in V-Ray object properties (right click in the viewport).

If it was that easy, it would have already been done

Hmm this works but when I untick use default moblur samples, the objects that are actually moving are no longer in their correct position when rendering. Its like they have fallen off the screen.

Can you post some images showing the problem?

i had a another thread on this a while back, the answer i was given was that it working as intended but it never seemed right to me. it seemed to be related to scene scale and the actual space an object was moving rather than relative. i.e a helicopter with motion blurred rotor blades went out of scene, appearing completely out of place even though it was linked to the main non motion-blurred helicopter body. made no sense to me.
            cant find that thread though.

Looks to be although turning off camera motion blur in the render rollout doesn't fix it for me. I would just use standard cameras and use the MB in the render rollout with camera disabled except I cannot get the standard cameras perspective to match exactly my existing physical cameras
