  • Strange behaviour for vray displacement on top face of a tube shape.

(please ignore the post processing differences)

So I have these tube shapes and I want to have the bump mapping from map channel one and the displacement only on the top face (although if it goes through the bottom I don't care).

As you can see it's pushing through the inner and outer faces on the ring messing with the mapping.

Any ideas how I can have this not happen?

3d displacement just gives me a huge mess of polygons.

How do I make it only displace on the top face?

    thanks!

Try with V-Ray MultiSubTex map, works very well according to my tests:

I think you are missing out some parts of it - what what about the mapping down the side?

And what does having it on a multi tex actually achieve?

If you connect the Map#2 texture to the Tex2 slot of the VRayMultiSubMtl you will get the displacement on the bottom side of the tube as well.

In this particular case you can use it to define which polygons of the object you want to be affected by the displacement. Isn't that what you want to achieve?

I didn't realise that was what it was doing! I'll give it a try, thanks!
