  • 3.6 RT Render Crashes - I get a warning saying "3ds max is running out of memory" !?!?!

I'm working on a large-ish open car park.

I'm using Forest Pack Pro and V-Ray proxies for the cars.

A fair bit of grass around the car park but nothing major.

Number of polygons in scene - around 5m.

I have 4 x 1080 ti's and using Active Shade - but I'm hitting a message that doesn't make any sense..... "Your computer is low on memory. Save your files and close these programs: 3dsmax.exe".

*Only* 3DS Max is open and I've got 64Gb's of ram and Task Manager is saying I have plenty of ram available (like 45gb).....

Has anyone seen these before ?

I believe it's Forest Pack Pro related and will be posting on their forums as well - it's like it's a memory leak, yet nothing is looking bloated in any of the messages I see.

As always..... this is mega urgent.

PS - whether I try to render Production Adv, or RT (GPU) I get this error (in Activeshade GPU too).

Only when I turn off layers which have Forest Pack Pro objects do the renders work......

For the crash, make sure you are using the proper Forest Pack version https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...e-for-download

Hm, in the post message Vlado has wrote "NOTE: If you use Forest Pack, you must update to the latest version (beta 5.3.4 or later).".

Okay, I think I've fixed things

(and learned a lot in the process ).

            1) I made absolutely sure I removed all warning messages - just because they are highlighted in green (and not red) doesn't mean they aren't important

            2) I tested all the imported models one by one to make sure RT was happy with each one.

            3) I replaced my lighting system (HDRI and VRay Sun) with just a VRay Sun and VRaySky.

            All working

Just increased the pagesys.fil size and that has helped all around (including the other issue I reported today being that I wasn't able to use all 4 gpus). Once pagefile.sys was increased, I was also able to use all 4.

              Happy days
