  • Render crash on V-RAY 3.6

    Hello,

I a have a render crash on V-Ray 3.6, but if i revert install to V-Ray 3.5 render is working.
I have make test on more than one workstation and with many version of 3dsmax (2014 2016 and 2018 for all 3dsmax release except 2018 the render does not crash on V-Ray3.5 but crash on 3.6

In attachrement you will find the 3dsmax minidump, sorry I can share the max file cause it is under NDA.

    Best regards

We'll check the dump for some general culprits but would be nice to give us more information about the crashing scene.
First thing we need to know is if completely new empty scene also crashes - just open 3dsMax hit render and watch.
Second, where the crash occurs actually, in the beginning of the rendering during the scene translation or during the actual rendering?
Would it be also possible to send V-Ray Log file, its default location is under the %temp% folder.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

According to the dump file it is insufficient memory issue. V-Ray log file will be useful to check what eats the memory so please send it over after the crash occurs.
What would be helpful to know is the RAM usage of the same scene rendered with both version 3.5 and 3.6 of V-Ray.

Embree Raycaster seems to be disabled in that scene, may you enable it and see if there is any improvement?

        Here is the log file

The render does not crash with an new completely empty scene

The render crash occurs during the render startup before the Lightcache nor IR map computation before the VrayVFB open.

I try to enable embree and rerender the scene

        Thx for your help

          HI

With embree activated and 'dyn mem limit, mb' set to '0' :
          - no more crash 3.6/3dsmax 2014
          - crash 3.6/3dsmax 2017 (in attachement the vraylog, there is no mini_dump 3dsmax just exit without error message)
          - crash 3.6/3dsmax 2018 (in attachement the vraylog, there is no mini_dump 3dsmax just exit without error message)

          Thx for your help
