  • Another V-ray 3.6 crash

Hi again! I'm experiencing another v-ray 3.6 crash. It doesn't happen consistently, more randomly it seems. It seems to render fine with 3.5, but I switched to 3.6 because it seems to give better results with the matte shadows.

I'm using 2 light select render elements, but no Cryptomatte this time. If you want I could send the file to support

This time I got a crash log file. I'm attaching the minidump file.

I can't open anything from your link. Other than that - it will be best to send the scene and the dump to support (and/or me )
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

        Hi all.
        Same here.

On a relatively complex (33Mpolys) scene , with Forest and Railclone objects, vrayproxies and so on. It happened quite everytime untill i decided to switch down to 3.50.04.
        Now seems to be fine.

I can send two dump files if you need.

        Dual Xeon E5-2630 - 32GB RAM

Ok, it happened right now, even with 3.50.04....

I prepared all dumps for now.
Max file is huge (800Mb + vraymeshes + textures)... i'll send later

Consider that i still had some issues regarding old normals maps... but i don't think it can cause problems like these.

The vraylog.txt is completely empty ...

Tried to completely re-create all itoo's objects (forest and railclone)... but it crashes anyway. A part from simply geometries, remains just some complex vrayproxies.

                    Hi all,
Did you find something that can cause those crashes? Should i contact Itoo guys?

I'm sorry but i need to say something to the client... because now i can't render at all that scene.

                      Hi,

We've reproduced them here and as soon as I have some info I will share it here.

                        Thank you Peter.
So this means that is not related to some objects (bad geometries... or something) as i was thinking...

It looks like it's neither us or iToo. Try this - uninstall V-Ray, FP and RC, open you scene and try to reset the scene - it should crash right away.

I think you're right. It seems it happens randomly, not only during a rendering process or a specific operation.
I sent the minidump to ADSK as well. Don't think they will answer or work on it as you did... anyway...

The only thing i can do is start from scratch and riassemble all the scene. After that i hope it will work.

Thanks for your time guys, as usual.

Smells like max scene corruption to me.
Your best bet is to start a new scene, and merge in the old one.
You'll lose some settings (render-related, mostly), but it is also a method known to cleanp messy/broken max files.
