  • Distributed Rendering issue with Max 2018

    Hi
We have a number of dedicated render machines in our office, and today I installed Max 2018. These machines are a few years old and are running Windows 7. Right now starting Vray spawner results in Max 2018 starting and then closing again over and over. The black Vrayspawner icon remains constant and the service remains in the task manager. I thought that AVG may be preventing DR from starting, however after making sure it was off (Along with Windows Firewall/Defender) Max still keeps closing and re-starting in an infinite loop. I have checked that Vray is looking for the correct IP address of the node that has the dongle. I've also made sure the WIBU drivers are up to date and the latest license server is installed. Do you guys have any ideas? Do you still need to run at least one backburner job to get DR working?

As a side point - these machines have had several Max versions installed before (2016 & 2017). On most machines I've uninstalled old versions of Max and associated Vray installs, but the problem remains.

    Cheers

After much head scratching I solved the problem. Our render farm machines have some old basic video cards installed and the OS was set to use the standard windows VGA display drivers. Max 2018 was starting and closing again due to it not having a compatible display driver - in spite of the fact that the UI display is minimised when spawner is running. New graphics drivers did the trick. Even with the default VGA display driver, Max 2016 and 2017 still ran DR ok. Perhaps 2018 requires a higher minimum display adapter now. Anyway - if that helps anybody, all good.
