  • Chrome reflections not visible when behind a sheet of glass

I have a relatively straightforward scene with a staircase in an office. The upstands of the glass (the balustrade) is glass at 8mm thick. Running around the glass balustrade is a chrome/stainless steel handrail - a sweep object with a circular profile. It mostly looks fine except where the stainless steel handrail goes behind the glass: the view of the handrail goes black behind the glass.

I have tried changing all sorts of values without success. Any ideas? This should be simple so clearly I am tired!!

    Kind Regards,
    Richard Birket

Sounds like a reflection/refraction depth problem.
Are the materials at default, or have you got the override in the render panel set?

yes, I'm pretty sure that Raven is right, start with checking your reflection/refraction depth

I've upped the figures for refl/refr on the glass to 20 and refl on the chrome to 20. Doesn't seem to make any difference.
