  • VrayTriplanarTex size affects material editor thumbnail preview

    Hi,

it seems that in V-Ray 3.6, size parameter of VrayTriplanarTex affects scale of the texture inside of the material editor preview. Since material editor does not allow you to change physical scale of the texture shown in preview thumbnail, this is a problem, as the preview becomes effectively broken on any nodes downstream from triplanar texture, because it will almost never show any meaningful output. When it comes to material editor preview, triplanar should always just pass on texture preview from any incoming node without modifying it.

    Attaching example below:

    Hi Recon,

Yup it seems a bit senseless for sizes larger than the preview, but I guess some form of visual feedback on size in the preview still would be useful, so will have to think a bit about it.

    Thanks,

For me, personally, I can't see how any form of visual feedback could be useful. If you want to do color corrections on your source map in the node tree anywhere after the Triplanar Map, it will always be just a problem, never a benefit. Even if it's smaller than a preview, you will still not see your input map correctly, so working with the preview will become difficult.

Right now I always have to do a frustrating workaround of first plugging the source bitmap into color corrector, then performing the corrections I need, and then replacing bitmap with the output of triplanar. And every time I want to go back and tweak it, I have to repeat the workaround all over again.
