  • 3dsMax crashes when the first client joins the DR session

Hey, I have a problem here: My workstation is the host for a DR render session. The scene is very big, around 4gb. So it takes a while until the slaves start to join, maybe 5 minutes. As soon as the first client tries to start rendering, 3dsMax crashes to desktop. Tried to reproduce it, it doesn't happen all the time. I have the 3dsMax minidump, if that helps.

The first thing I would check is in the render dialog box under the settings tab, if your "Dyn mem Limit" is set to 0 try setting it to 3/4 of however much ram your computer has so if you have 16GB of memory try setting that to say 14000 and see if that helps. I work with huge scenes as well and when it just crashes to the desktop for no reason that is the first thing I check and its often the cause.

Yup I have 64GB in my main farm across all the slaves and the main WS and even though it wont use all the RAM if I set that limit to 0 Im almost guaranteed a crash so I set it to about 60000 usually and that works "most" of the time lol

It would be super helpful if you can send me the dump to vlado@chaosgroup.com

          Best regards,

Minidump was sent, I hope it is usefull.
By the way, I measured the time needed before the slaves kick in: Around 8 minutes, but it shouldn't be related to the problem.

Thanks a lot for the crash dumps! I think I found out why the crash happens (it's related to asset file path resolution when a server requests an asset from the client machine). Will try to squeeze in a fix for 3.60.03 for this.

              Best regards,
              Vlado

Crash seems to be fixed in 3.60.03, it didn't happen after the update so far. Thanks guys!
