The Ivy generator is painfully slow using the progressive renderer. I mean, 3 minutes to compiling geometry and you can't stop while it is compiling.

Actually, it gets worse than that. It is now stuck at Compiling geometry for about 10 minutes. I stopped the render after the first 3-minute freeze, tweaked something and hit render again. This is when it's hung Compiling the geometry again.

It might not be the IVY. I crashed MAX, restarted and deleted the ivy. Now, it is hung up on a car saying 'Compiling geometry'

What's the memory and CPU usage like? Is there any displacement involved?

        Best regards,

I've found out that since the new progress bar on the bottom of the VFB was introduced, one interesting bug has started to occur. Often, when a scene contains displacement, which is currently being tessellated/translated, the progress bar in both VFB and 3ds Max render progress window will halt on one of the previously compiled scene objects. So it's often crunching for example object called "Ground", which has displacement, but both progress bars say it's compiling the "Table" object. I was caught off guard several times by this, wondering why seemingly simple meshes take ages to translate. This issue is probably related to this report.

Yes, I've been meaning to fix that...

Probably an evermotion car with displacement for the tires?

I'll be back in this later today and I'll dig deeper. If I remember, resetting V-Ray did the trick.

Back on it and I have displacement globally turned off and it is taking 2-3 minutes sitting on Compiling geometry. I deleted the IVY and now it is stuck on a car. I can't cancel the process so I'll just wait and see if deleting the car will do anything.

MAX stopped responding for about 10 minutes, so I killed it. Now, after deleting the ivy and the car, it is hung up on a Railclone object. What to do?
