  • How to bake the colour corrections into the outputfile

    Hi all,
Im so sorry for this annoying question.

I have a LUT and some colour corrections in the VFB and would like to bake them in on save.

I just want to output a jpg or tiff to make a catalogue but the CC does not bake in. I forgot how to do it.

    Thanks

Is it "Copy current channel to clipboard" and then just paste into photoshop?

You can use that, yes. However, if you are using the backround image feature in the VFB, it will not copy the background. I adressed this here, but didn't get a reply so far: https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...ground-as-well

That's right, I was not able to copy the BG. Would be cool if there were a simpler way. It would be cool to be able to export the VFB CC stack to PS. Thanks

You actually can export a .cube with all the corrections from the VFB. However, I couldn't find a way to reproduce the exact same output with that .cube in PS. I hate that piece of software...

Oh I see. I just found that PSD manager should be able to do it

That is actually not the fault of Photoshop. The .cube file exported by V-Ray only covers the fixed color range between the 0 and 1. So any color values above 1.0 may not correctly be reproduced, because the data isn't there. So the result is that the image will look like being clipped to 0...1 range and the LUT applied. Depending on the adjustments that will be noticeable or not. For the 0..1 range the colors should be correct.

psd-manager 4 can either save the color corrections as an Photoshop adjustment layer (based on the LUT .cube from V-ray) or simply save the V-ray color corrections (baked in). It will currently not apply the ones V-Ray considers just for display. However, based on your post I was experimenting with saving also those today (like Background image, LUT, OCIO). I could use some feedback on what users want here and how much control is actually needed. The easiest would be as seen in framebuffer. If you already use psd-manager and would like to help please send me an email to mail@daniel-schmidt.biz and I can add you to the Beta program.

so is it not possible to save a jpg sequence with baked LUT corrections?
in this instance, would i have to save as 32bit EXR and then apply LUT in post? but even then it's not possible to get the exact result as in the VFB when applying the same LUT file anyway?
saving out thousands of EXRs is going to take quite a bit of storage...
