Vray 3.60.03 hang forever trying to render an image with displacement (same scene work with 3.40.01)

Hi,

Yesterday I sent a scene to support that is impossible to render with V-Ray 3.60.03. nightly from 05-10-2017 and also from 09-09-2017, max 2017, windows 10.

V-Ray will start the render but the first buckets stays frozen there forever and I can't kill max (permission denied in win10 task manager!!!???) I have to do a hard reset of my computer.

If I deactivate displacement in the global switch it renders correctly.

My displacement uses clipping (by water level) on one of the objects.

I downgraded to 3.40.01 from 26-05-2016 and I could render the image.

The scene was created with a earlier version of V-Ray (in december 2014) I don't rememebr the exact version.

Any update on this? Or do you have an idea from which version that behaviour should occur so maybe I can upgrade a bit from 3.40.01

According to our tests V-Ray version is not important. I went back to 3.10.01(released on Q3 of 2014) and I can confirm that the issue occurs with every version, or at least with all I tested 3.10.01 / 3.40.01 / 3.60.03 / latest stable nightly.
Maybe this is not the same scene as the originally built one, maybe there are added objects, modifiers, plugins and etc.

So far we believe that issue is related to the Dynamic Displacement. If all VRayDisplacementModifier are with Static option enabled everything runs fairly quick.
I am a bit surprised to find out that every object into that scene has VRayDisplacementMod assigned, is that intentional or something wrong happened?

Let us know if everything is fine when all DispclacementMods are with enabled Static option.

We couldn't actually replicate the hang, what happened here with all objects visible(scene we save with isolated objects) is that the buckets stuck at the beginning of the rendering for 20 minutes and then everything is rendered for 10 minutes.

Each objects has rust on it, so that's whey they needed displacement. I will try again with latest nightly and check again my settings in the displacement mod modifier. But I was able to render it in 3.40.01 and it may be possible that I changed the options in the displacement mod.

Current scene renders the same across different versions which is a good indication that something has changed, not sure what exactly.

Have you got a chance to test if everything is fine with Displacement set to Static?

Hi Svetlozar! I reinstalled 3.60.03 and I set all displacement to static geo and yes it is rendering in 15 minutes now. I also reinstalled my whole system since then so that could have been due to something else... Thanks
