  • Max 2018 crashes all the time

    Hi,

We are having constant crashes editing meshes or applying UVW .
Nothing we do works as a turnaround .Everything is up to date. Even new Gpus were installed.
Probably it is not Vray related.
    Are you experiencing this?

    Best Regards,
    Fernando Blanco

It's just a hunch for me, but issues I have with 3ds Max I feel are often driver related, usually graphics drivers. I can't speak for your issues, but 'Even new Gpus' is already a warning bell to me.

Don't get me wrong, we pay enough for our software and 3DS Max has a history of being broken / fixed / broken etc - in an ideal world it ought to work on any Windows computer, any half decent PC hardware..... the reality as you know is somewhat different....

For this reason, I have still not yet started working fully in 2018.
    Jez

Could you please attach/send us 3ds max mini dump file after the crash? Also does it crash on a simple scene? Do you get the crashes at a certain stage or at random? Are you able to render with the CPU?

My colleague is having crashes all the time as well. We've just updated to max 2018 and it is a nightmare. Latest SP's are installed too. We didn't go with max 2017 because of the bad feedback but now this !!!?
            Regards

            Steve

If it is any relief, I finally got MAX 2018 working properly, but it took some work. In my case, I had to create a new user. I tried logging into a user I already had but never used, but that didn't work. I tried my local admin account, but again, no good. I had to create a brand new user. My issue was with my 4K monitor and scaling, but I think a new user is solving other issues, too.

The 3dsmax_minidump.dmp file should be created in the Temp folder right after the crash occurs. To get a quick access to this folder open Explorer and type %temp% in the address bar.

Let me know if this worked for you.
