Unfortunately, I didn't follow through on this and I didn't get support my scene. Maybe one of you guys can get Choas support your scene. I am way past this project; it's already archived and done.

Hello Vlado, thanks for the support,
One of my viewport quads was set to 'ORTHOGRAPHIC' mode, and production rendering mode somehow went from my camera to this specific quad to render, so I turned it back in to 'PERSPECTIVE' mode just to check, and all objects on the scene rendered fine. Then I put it back to orthographic again and it did hang on 'compiling geometry' forever so I did have to kill max, I am now convinced this is what caused the problem this time.
The scene has little over 4 million polys, no displacement whatsoever. Thx!

As of December 2021, 3DS Max 2020, 2021, 2022 with V-Ray 5, update 2.1, I am getting this issue.
I googled, came to this thread (which was last commented on in 2019) and for sure, my one displacement material in my scene seems to be causing this.
The trouble is, I'm convinced I deleted and removed all traces of this displacement material (including in the Material Editor) and yet the problem persisted with this file (I had to go find a previous autosaved version to resolve my issue).
Any update ???
For completeness, I'm using GPU rendering.Last edited by JezUK; 14-12-2021, 02:32 AM.Jez
