  • VRay Aerial Perspective

Anyone having issues with VRayAerialPerspective and VRayEnvironmentFog in 3ds Max 2018 with VRay Adv 3.60.1? For the life of me I can't get them working without changing to RT, and that is not an option for this project. In 3ds Max 2016, I don't need a gizmo for VRayEnvironment fog to work scene wide when using RT. With VRay Advanced, I have to create a gizmo just to get it to show up, and only within that gizmo. VRayAerialPerspective only works in RT in 2016. In 2018, I can't get anything to work with regular VRay, not even wVRayEnvironmentFog with a gizmo.

    Am I the only one?

I got it working in VRay Advanced. If I switch Bucket to Progressive, and render, it works. I can then switch it back to Bucket and it will now render. But it still doesn't show up in the interactive rendering like it will in RT. I tried on two different workstations with the same results.

Same here, using the nightlies it doesn't show up in Adv interactive...RT shows up though. I emailed support about this on Friday.

        Hello,

This is a known limitation of Adv Interactive - currently all atmospherics are turned off in the interactive render.

        Best regards,

Check the notes on the bottom -

If it was that easy, it would have already been done

Thanks for the info. On the same topic, I notice that the arrial perspective shows up in RT IPR, but has to be on when you start it. Toggling it on and off is not respected. Maybe expected behavior as well?

Yes unfortunately - that's another known issue - the "Active" toggle in the atmospherics is not updated in ActiveShade.

As a kind of a workaround - if you change any parameter of the atmospheric while ActiveShade is running - the Active toggle will also be updated.

The problem I was having wasn't just with IPR. It would not add the effect until I switched from bucket, to progressive, and rendered. After it worked there I went back to bucket and it worked. It wouldn't do anything before switching. I'm trying to reproduce exactly what I did for it not to work and I'm not having any luck. Even going back to the version of the file where I was having the problem, it is not, not working. I feel like I'm going insane because I was messing with this issue for over a half hour yesterday trying to get something to render, and now it's rendering on the first try.
