Can Chaosgroup give us an update for when VRay-RT CUDA will support BerconMaps ?? (BerconWood is what I really need)

  • Can Chaosgroup give us an update for when VRay-RT CUDA will support BerconMaps ?? (BerconWood is what I really need)

I'm working on an urgent project where I really have to use a procedural wood texture, like BerconWood.

The timely delivery of this project (over 1100 product renders) depends on me using RT, which I'm committing to, yet here is where it's failing me.

Can Chaosgroup give us an indication for when Berconmaps will be supported in RT ??

Of course, I'm talking CUDA specifically.

    Thanks.
    Jez

I just made a new task in our system about your request for Bercon Wood support on GPU and will updated this thread when we have any news to share.

We have Bercon noise support for the V-Ray GPU Next.
Procedural textures require separate implementation for GPU, and V-Ray GPU supports quite a lot (Forest Color, Multitexture, Bercon Noise, etc).
I don't think there will be any additional procedural textures in the GPU for the official release unfortunately. Rewritting every procedural texture for GPU however is not really doable.

That's a real shame - Berconwood is a very useful procedural texture and there's nothing else quite like it in 3DS Max.

I know it's not ideal, but as an annoying workaround you could always make a bunch of them at different sizes in Adv CPU, then bake it out straight from the material editor, then use the baked jpg's for GPU as a bitmap
