  • Matte Shadow Problem

    Hi,
why I get shadow from the sun in a place where it should not be when I render matte/shadow pass? (the small box standing in the shadow of a large box).
    Can anyone help?

You don't get just shadow from the sun, but shadow from the sky as well. The small box is shadowing the larger box from the sky environment light. The solution here would be to make sure you do not use DomeLight and then set GI amount to 0.

In addition to LudvikKoutny - in order for the GI amount to work properly you should have two separated surfaces for ground plane and external walls, if they are connected you will loose GI on the floor as well.
This unwanted defect will be also improved in future version of V-Ray.

Hi, thanks, but I meant this shadow. It should't be here because this small box is in the shadow of a large box.

Thanks for the clarification. We are sorry to report but this is a limitation of the Matte Shadow.
V-Ray Matte shadow cannot determine if shadow of one matte object it blocked by another mate object right now.
This might be improved in future versions, for now the only way to get that properly is to render the scene on multiple passes.

thomes No changes on the matter, I'm afraid. However, do tell us about your case; what is the end-goal result? Maybe there is another method of achieving it. Do send a sample scene via the contact form (or attach it here) so we can take a look. Address it to me in the subject and mention this thread in the message.
