  • Render Crashes

Hi, I've been having a lot of crashes during rendering and was wondering if someone can help me diagnose the problem. It happens during at least 20% of my renderings. I have the dump files and stuff. Would someone be so kind to let me know if it has to do with Vray, 3ds max, or my hardware so I know how to proceed? Thanks!

    3ds max 2017
    Windows 10
    Latest version of Vray

    Hello,

First of all - can you tell us which is your exact V-Ray version? Apart from this - if you have dump files - do send them to us - we can check them. You can attach them here or send them to support@chaosgroup.com with a link to this topic.

    Best regards,
    Yavor

Thanks for the reply Yavor. I am using Vray 3.60.04. Just sent the dump files to you @ support@chaosgroup.com

      Really appreciate the help

Are you crashing while rendering in IPR? I crash several times a day using IR by simply moving things or turning something on/off. I have just learned to be patient. The time saved using IPR is worth the crash headaches.

Hey there, yea I get those too but I just accept that it happens. In this case it crashes a lot during production rendering.

Alex can you send us the crashing scene? The crash dump gives some clues but it will be easier if we can reproduce the issue here.

            Best regards,

Hi Yavor, I would really like to do anything I can to help with that, but unfortunately these files are for a client's campaign :-/

What type of issue is it most likely to be?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Do you get the crashes only on that specific scene or it happens on other ones too? If it is scene specific - can you try the same scene but on another computer?
The crash in the dump is not in a specific part of the rendering so it is hard to say what type of issue it might be.
Also - if you get more crashes and dumps - send a few more - they might give more hints.

                Best regards,
                Yavor

Hi Yavor, I was working on a bunch of different scenes so I am not sure how specific it is. I recently did the 7-10 upgrade, so I just reinstalled fresh windows and all of the software again to perhaps make it cleaner. Will let you know if I have any more issues and will send you the dump files.

                  Thanks a lot!

I also have crashes on most heavier scenes after about an hour using IPR, and if I didn't have a crash the high res final production render in whatever mode crashes 99.9% (after having used IPR).
It has been like that since I started using 3.60.04. So when I want to use IPR I restart MAX once an hour and before final rendering and rarely have crashes. Never bothered to report it because it is scene independent.
