  • Vray Next B2 material crash

    Hi there,

I'm experimenting with Vray Next Beta 2.
After a few test I'm encountering some issues which I can't get fixed.
Looks like this has to do with a material, cause my scene is rendering fine with a clay material.
Rendering only this object with material causes max to crash.
Even loading the material in the mat editor causes max to crash. (I've added some screenshots of that as attachment)

If there's anything I can try to prevent this please let me know
    Thanks
    Pieter

    Hello,

Could you send a scene with that material assigned to some simple geometry?

    Best regards,
    Yavor

      Hi Yavor,

Here is the file with at least one of the objects with a material that is causing this issue...
I hope you can find the issue here.

Thanks for the scene. I'm downloading it but the download speed is very low for some reason. It'll take at least 2 hours more to download. When it's ready I'll take a look and will write back here.

In the material you have RichDirt2 which is not compatible with V-Ray Next.
There are a number of changes in V-Ray Next and once it goes out of Beta developers of 3rd party plugins like RichDirt2 will have to release an updated version for it.

            Hi Yavor,

Great, thanks for looking into that for me.
I'll keep an eye on the Richdirt plugin site.

              Hi Yavor,

I'd like to follow up on this issue with the scene I last sent you.
The last few days I've been able to render quite some images from this scene but since yesterday I can't seem to render any image at all because max is crashing each time the render starts loading up.
Can't see very much in the log going by.
Sometimes I get a warning because of invalid normal but this is only when these objects are in view, and even when they're not (this warning isn't displayed) and max crashes anyway.
In regard to the richdirt plugin, I'm quite sure it's not present in this scene as I don't get a warning when loading max of a missing plugin.

Would it be possible to have a look at this for me please?
Can I send you a link? The max file is about 90mb, w 5Gb of assets.

              Thanks!

Yes send it over. If you want - write to our support and they can arrange an FTP so you can upload it directly there.

Ok Yavor, I'll do that, thank you.
I've been testing further and it seems defenitely te be caused by one object possible in combination with the material.
