  • Vray Clipper

    Hi There,

I've modelled an appartment building with the interiors.
My cliend would need some renderd plans from the interiors.
So I decided to work with the vray clipper as I've used this before.

For this I'm using 2 clippers at the same time to get the desired result: a wall cut off at 90cm height, and the interior objects at about 180cm
So I've got 2 clippers which I've carefully placed (based on a mesh bounding box)
    - A: only including the architecture solid
    - B: only excluding the architecture solid

This is giving me this strange results: (have a look at the attachments).
I've indicated the issues on one of the screenshots.
    Thanks
    Pieter

      Hi Brendan,

Thank you for your reply, I've read about the embree function and already tried that, without any luck....

Might also depend on if you're rendering progressive or bucket, and also cpu vs gpu? I've seen those similar radial artifacts and I thought they cleared up when turning off embree.. The type of geometry being clipped can also cause issue if it isn't a geometry with thickness.

Hi, looks like it's going better now, I've removed the clipping mesh and replaced it with a clipping plane...

Oh sorry I missed that you were using clipping geometry! You can also include/exclude with the clipping plane so maybe you'll still be able to clip how you were clipping with geometry.

np, but I was doing that as I said in the A/B:
              - A: only including the architecture solid
              - B: only excluding the architecture solid

              might be something else...
anyway, looks like I'll go with the planar slicer.

              thanks for the help

The slice plane is causing another issue, as you can see the forest grass isn't rendering normal, some zones are very thin.

maybe exclude the grass from the clipper?

would be great, but how do I do that if I already chose 1 include object (the architecture main model)
Can you include obj a, and exclude obj b?
Otherwise I'll have to use include and then update this each time when I make a change, would be a lot of work.

                    Thanks

Oh if you're already using include on other geo than the grass shouldn't be affected. Hmm.

yeah very strange, seems like the grass (forest) and trees vrayproxies are affected

                          Hello,

Are all the trees part of one single Forest object ? If so - can you try to split them to a few separate objects ? If it is one single object all around the building and the tree models have single sided leafs it might throw off some of the internals of the Clipper.

Or if you could send the scene to our support - we can check what is going on exactly.

                          Best regards,
                          Yavor

I had some issues with Clipper solved by increasing transparency levels in the render settings.
                            A.

Hi Ashley, thank you for your reply, I'll try that.

@Yavor, I'll have a look at that, and send the scene file to the support, I had to send it anyway cause I also have some trouble with the auto exposure option.
