  • Vray NEXT - shadow catcher and adaptive dome light - square artifacts

    Hello guys,
here is a very simple scene, all defaults.
i ve discovered that vray dome light still creates the square like artifacts when its se to adaptive.
ball in the middle was meant to be a mid gray - but the autoexposure made it completely white - thats weird too.

here is the scene and the screen shot

so i turned the bottom plane to serve as shadow catcher to OFF and it renders fine, the ball is mid gray not pure white.
does this mean the autoexposure doesnt work when u have shadowcatcher in the scene?

I don't see artifacts in the attached scene. Maybe I'm missing something?

It's kind of expected behaviour when you have black or dark environment. Will log it to see if there is something that could be done about that.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

        Hi Peter,
        you probably misunderstood me.

1.st i set the plane to shadowcatcher, set the autoexposure to ON and hit render. The outcome was that the gray ball was rendering pure white, the shadowcatcher plane did not render (obviously) and the ALPHA rendered with the SQUARE PATCHES (domelight was on adaptive)

        2. then i set the plane back to normal state (no shadowcatcher) and the image rendered normally grey.

        SO:

There is definitelly somethirn wrong in relation between shadowcatcher and the adaptive domelight - hence the square patches in alpha.

Plus - and this is personal opinion - grey ball in the middle of the scene, default domelight - i woudl expect the autoexposure a little into consideration the initial color of the object and the power of the scene light ?

I will get used to autoexposure but the patches seem to be a bug or maybe its not meant for the adaptive domelight to be used with shadowcatcher?

          Hey Martin,

This is a bug that we need to fix with the adaptive dome light (this is why it is still marked as WIP - some non-physical situations lead to issues and we need to resolve them).

For the auto-exposure and matte/shadow objects, I didn't actually consider this case and it didn't come up during the beta Will see what can be done about it.

          Best regards,
          Vlado

            Ok Vlado thanks!
I will tell my crew not to use it right now for in such cases.
