I jump in this discussion because I have the same problem with my scene.

The first time I noticed the problem it was a quite simple scene like a small restaurant... then I made some test and I finished having a new scene with just a teapot with no materials and switched on GI and DR.

The same result: at the end of the scene it crashes with no error report from 3dsmax but at least the image is saved in the history.

EVERYTHING REINSTALLED, all FPs on all nodes, made sure its 6.0.8

still crashes either at the end of the render or when rendering is stopped :-/

Minidump wasnt even created so i cant send it.

I will have to pack the whole scene and send it to you Vlado

Its heavy though so expect a big download. Is that ok?

Were really quite screwed now as we dont have the time to reinstal.

One thing is very weird though.
In one test i ran a DR session with only one node and it did not crash. so i dont know what the hell is going on.

I really think there is something corrupted in FP instalation and if i had minidump perhaps there would be again 6.0.6 part somewhere...woudl that even be possible?

          Hello Alessio,
i removed the FP from the scene and it renders fine so this really must be on FP side.

So after all the hustle with finding out what it does what it does i found this conclusion that will probably interest Chaos guys as its not FP problem.

When i utilize all the nodes in the farm that we have in a render session that takes place on my workstation while still using the localhost computer to pitch in with its cores - the rendergin crashes MAX. When i remove the localhost and let only the DR node do the work, everything is fine. This all happens either upon render cancelation or render being finished.

              No minidump is being created.

Could someone with a farm please reproduce this?

It doesnt matter what scene you throw at it..i tried older and new scenes and fresh scenes too.
              All do the same thing.

And of course it doesnt make a difference whether its a scene with FP on not.

              Ideas?

I am sending this to support and also to Vlado.

Martin, I have just upgraded to the official release of Next and am having the same issue.
If I save the render output it doesn't crash, but if I don't save it crashes straight to desktop or on occasions it doesn't crash but max crashes after a few attempts at doing anything else.
Throughout the beta I had no issues like this so it is a bit odd.

I will keep investigating and report back if I find something

I had the chaos guys digging through crash dumps yesterday in a remote session so hopefully they will have soon some info for us about the problem.

                    Martin,
What version of max are you using?
I was getting a lot of crashes at the end of renders with 2015 but 2019 seems to be 100% stable.

Well, turned out to be a bug in my case
ive been sent a nightly which fixed it but then max 2019 crashed almost every render....this is being fixed too for the next official patch.
until then i will just have to do without using localhost when rendering with DR

I can confirm with Vray NEXT and FP 608b (which supports Vray Next official build), when we render DR, after the render has completed, 3dsmax will crash. (We are on 3dsmax 2017). iToo has mentioned to me that they are planning to release FP 6.0 within the few 3 weeks. Hopefully this will fix the problem. Whatever it is, for now, we will have to go back to vr 3.6 + FP for to continue production.

EDIT: rendering DR on one machine seems to work fine. As soon as I introduced multiple DR machines, is when it crashes

                          hey Ramy,
try the latest stable nightly its fixed there.
                          its vray related quite likely.

just write to support asking for access and you should get it in this case without much delay.
Do it now they will pick it up tomorrow for sure.

3ds max still crashes with vr 40302 (nightly), when DR is assigned to more than one machine and using FP.

EDIT: seems that it also crashes with just 1 DR machine too. Martin, I believe you're correct, it's not a FP issue.
