  • Vray NEXT - adaptive domelight square artifacts in physical situation

    Hello,

i am probably having a really hard start with the NEXT among the crashes with FP with DR.

    This time its the domelight.

    Its set to adaptive.
Domelight has a really good HDRI light texture in it bought from cg-source.

As you can see on the right white wall, i am getting some banding above the sofa and also above the window on the ceiling.
Those are only the biggest ones, otherwise if i inspect the image closer, its all over the place.

Bu while its not visible on CAM 1, its visible on CAM 2

The most affects walls are the one in the kitchen and the one on the left

There is nothing "not physical" in the scene that i could blame for causing it apart from the backplates (which are excluded from light and from the GI/shadows and what not)

    Using auto exposure.

I , of course, understand that its still in WIP stage but i would not expect it would fail like this with a normal scene (unless i am doing anything terrible).

    Thanks for help!

    M

if i turn off adaptive, the problem is gone.
No faking in this scene apart from window glass planes excluded from GI

        Please send me the scene.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

I was told that it was a known bug with the adaptive dome light.

Hey Bobby - I'm not sure it's the same thing in this case, so a scene will be very helpful. As usual, despite our many internal tests and the months of beta, things need to be used in a real production situation to break

            Best regards,
            Vlado

Here is the link to my post (https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...797-dark-boxes). Turning off adaptive solved it for me.

Thanks; it doesn't help me though as I don't have the scene for that image either. So I don't know if it's the same problem that Martin has or its something else. Basically, I don't have a way to reproduce it right now...

                Best regards,
                Vlado

I kind of hijacked the post, so maybe PIXELBOX_SRO can post his scene. If not, it is the same scene you helped me with for the HDRI converting.

Hey Bobby, I don't get any issues with the adaptive dome light in your scene with the official V-Ray Next builds - at least not with the setup that I have from you (I tried both cameras). I'm missing some plugins though, will try to install them first.

                        Best regards,
                        Vlado

                          So all sent to Vlado.
                          The main problematic spots are:
                          1. white wall on the right above the sofa
                          2. ceiling above the thin window on the right
                          3. the white wall behind the kitchen
It think it all comes down to one issue, but just in case

Thanks a lot for the scene! Can you tell me if it's better when you revert the min shading rate to its default value of 6 (it was set to 50 in your scene)? If yes, then I'm pretty sure what the issue is and will fix it, but it would be good to confirm.

                            Best regards,
                            Vlado
