  • UV Map extension

The fudge for myself (and plenty others I've seen) is to generate my material libraries with a geometry - say a cube so that you can add UV metadata for a particular bitmap. Eg. I'll have a file with a cube containing Vray materials which are setup for a non-distorted, correct size UV mapping. (eg. Box mapping, 0.5m x 0.3m x 0.5m)

It would be extremely useful to have a 'UV overide' parameter within the vray material itself - so you can setup the exact UV coordinates for the bitmaps associated within in it.
This way you could select several pieces of geometry, not worry about whether there's a UV map applied, real-world turned off etc, and drop on the material and it will render with proper UV mapping.

The wider issue here as well is that there's no universal standard on texture maps metadata - that they should have a setting that dictates it's real-world size.
If I were to go to several online texture libraries (paid or free), there is often no indication of the real-world size of the texture. This is something that needs to be addressed so textures have a more professional / application.

I've just realised that the real-world settings in UV map address this issue. doh.
