Are you planning to make something similar as the new Debug Shading Tool of Vray Next Maya in 3dsmax?
I haven't tried it yet, but on the video i've seen it looks very interesting.
In 3dsmax I'm always forced to plug a new material in the override slot to check some parts of my shaders.
This workflow seems really fast, but I don't know if it is something possible to do with 3dsmax.
