I would like to be able to pause a rendering, be it a production one or IPR.

For production, Have you tried resumable rendering?
I tested it few times since it was released and it worked nicely. But it is been a while since I have tested it
The IPR in Maya/Modo can be paused CPU/GPU.
In Max I mostly use the GPU IPR, not sure if the CPU IPR can be paused.. probably not, but I will check.

Sometimes I need to pause to briefly use my CPU for another thing. Resumable rendering is too much of a hassle when I can just click a button in the VFB. I really only set up resumable rendering when I do final renderings, mostly ones that are very high-res or that I fear might crash for whatever reason. I guess I need pause most with IPR CPU if adding it for production rendering is not really possible or harder to do. I know it's already available for IPR GPU.Last edited by Alex_M; 10-12-2018, 03:56 AM.Aleksandar Mitov

I have learnt from past mistakes, that once I set a render going, I NEVER use the computer for anything else, I won't even have any other programs open. Instead if I need to send an urgent email, or check a website, I use my dirt cheap refurbished tablet or my smartphone.
You know what would be handy though..would be the ability to turn on "automatic resumeable rendering". Similar to auto backup you give it a folder and a prefix and if for whatever reason, something causes V-Ray or Max whatever to fall over, then at least you would have something to salvage, especially if a render is going to take a long, long time, instead of having to start again from scratch

Use that section of the render setup dialog to, turn on resumable rendering, set the file type, set the folder and set the interval.
and then have a button in the VFB, that lets you to just turn it on and off, whenever you like.
May seem like a lot of work to some, but for me simplifying the workflow, is never a bad idea.

I was wondering if there are still plans to implement a pause render button. This will be hugely helpful for me. Often I have to free up resources for a moment to do some other task with the CPU during rendering. The only way to do this currently is to disable a bunch of cores through Windows Task Manager.Aleksandar Mitov
