  • Request - 1) Stop tiling in triplanar preview 2) Histogram Map

    Hello,

Two requests which I think could improve Vray.

    1) Remove the tiling in the triplanar ma preview. It really only makes the preview useless and doesn't convey any useful information. The tiling serves to turn an otherwise useful preview into a tiny grid.

    2) This one is properly a new feature request. Nowhere in 3ds max maps is there a histogram. Since so much is done with 0-1 range remapping it would be very useful to have a map that provided a histogram in the preview and a simple 0-1 remap as a function, much like the black and white level in photoshop 'levels'.

Hope someone else thinks this would be useful. Thanks for taking the time to read...

Can you tell me a bit more about #2? It should basically take the min and max value from a bitmap and stretch them to fill the 0-1 range?

    Best regards,
    Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

      Hi Vlado,

I thought about this more... Yes, it should basically take the min and max value from a bitmap and stretch them to fill the 0-1 range. But a few more tools would be so helpful to have in the same map.

For the remap function it would be helpful to:
      1) Turn to monochromatic
      2) provide a black and white level slider to remap manually
      3) Also, have an auto feature to set the black and white point automatically based on the incoming map min-max
      4) provide a curve to allow further remapping/toning

I've included a little mock-up. The side-pannel shows the elements of the remap-map I'm thinking of.

The thing is for the material design we often take the diffuse, run it to color correct to desaturate, then run through an output map (often 2, one to remap, one to tone map) to remap the grey scale values. Over and over... This map would be a very useful utility, but not over complicated...

Also, you see I included a little Mock-up of the histogram map. I realized it doesn't make sense to have this as the preview of the remap-map, but I think it would be a great utility to have...

      What do you think?
