  • Intermediate light cache image save

I have zero idea of whether this is possible but...

In playing with Phoenix recently it is apparent to me that the light cache alone is a great image and one which is able to pretty accurately judge the final output and possibly good enough even for some situations.

So my question is: would it be possible to have vray only compute the light cache and then skip the final render stage on a given frame range and be able to save that as a sequence?

Umh, could you not set the LC to primary engine too?
I suppose PhX would still trace some BF?

Unfortunately, after checking, that isn't really what I meant. I was basically looking for a really quick way to preview, so thought that the light cache portion of the computation was easily good enough to assess what is happening.
I can stop it manually for a still frame but it's the animation I want of course.
It's ok if it's not possible, as there other ways to shave the render time

Isn't the "Don't render final image" option in the Global Switches rollout exactly what you're looking for?

Ah ok, yes that in fact does work.
I have never used that option before and assumed it was there only to save the light cache itself, much like it was with irradiance caches.
In fact the tooltip suggests that this is the case and doesn't indicate it will save an image, so that would have just not occurred to me to even try.
It is literally only over the last few days during testing FD that it seemed a good thing to have.

You live, you learn. Thanks very much

You guys are there on a Saturday? Bars all shut then?

Almost everything here is closed now and a lot of us will be working from home in the coming weeks, so there's not much else to do.
