  • Vray Camera clipping ranges to Vray Z Depth element (and spelling error)

I'd be nice if there was a way to automatically copy the clipping ranges set in a Vray camera to the Z Depth render element min/max values when the "use camera boundaries" is toggled on. It'd be useful for series of static shots where you want to reduce render time or to tweak the DOF blurring in post-production.
Also, in V-Ray Next 3.1, "boundaries" is spelt "boudaries".

Can't you take the clipping values from the camera itself?

Yes, but if I keep the clipping planes active, renders will be clipped, while I want a non-clipped render while using clipping planes as min/max for the Z Depth element, without having to worry about f-stop and camera dof effect; I find a much faster and easier way to set up the render while keeping everything at hand for post-production.

I can copy the values from the camera to the render element, but it's doable on on a limited number of frames.

I just tested keying the camera clipping plane, disabling the clipping and activating the 'zdepth use camera clip boundaries' option and it seems to produce correct VRayZDepth passes, though it does not show the specific values. Isn't this what you need or is it necessary for you to have these values?

Ah yes, you're right. Not seeing the values updating in the min/max field with use camera clip boundaries on threw me off. So maybe, having those fields update if the clip toggle is on?
          Thanks.

I logged it as an improvement request (internal bug-tracker id: VMAX-9754) for clarity's sake.
