  • Ability to mirror view in VFB

Often, especially for blocking / layout, it would be good to be able to mirror the view.
It could be a simple button in the VFB

Am sure I have heard this request before, though I think it was a very long time ago

Surely simply saving the image from the vfb and mirroring it in a simple image editor would be a quick way to play with around with blocking out / layout / composition. Though I doubt a client, say someone planning to build a new hotel, would be able to just flip the whole building over to the other side of the street / site

OR maybe you could place a mirror behind you desk and use a webcam to view the monitor in that mirror

Oh an d if you are simply blocking out a scene, it would likely be very simple shapes, so just group it all and flip it that way

Sorry, but why do you judge about other people needs?

Believe me, in many workflows it makes sense.
And in MY creative workflow it makes sense.
And this is for sure why you read it already once. It's an inexpensive button.

(It would be too long too explain in this forum and I'm not good in English)

p.s.You can even do this in all camera softwares (captureOne) and nobody plans to shoot the world mirrored. So there is good reason for it.
And in 3dsMax "simply to flip something with light, sorry that's nonesense, when we talk about quick nondestructive checks and start times for render.

Nobody is judging you for wanting to mirror a scene. but as I explained, most blocking/layout, is done using simple shapes, nobody blocks out a scene, using high detail, with all the textures.. You could also use a program called SnagIt. grab the VFB, flip it and check how it looks, would take a few seconds

As for it being just a simple button, taking an image in the VFB and flipping it horizontally, I very much doubt it would be SIMPLE. While it may look simple in other image editors, such as Photoshop, CaptureOne and many many others, I very much doubt it would just be a matter of adding a button.

I myself do a lot of archviz and have never, in al my years, heard anyone explain, why they would need to totally flip a render. Is it like taking an image of someone and flipping it, horizontally, and wondering why it doesn't look right. Surely working on a scene, trying to get the layout just right, workingg hard to get nice composition, then flipping the whole thing in the VFB, would have the same effect, it would just look off.

As I said, I vaguely recall, a long time ago, someone asking for such a feature and if I am right, it doesn't look as though it was implemented, so probably not a very popular request and I guess, very few others felt it was a necessary feature

but hey, good luck. I hope you get what you want.. I'm not here to judge you for your request, but remember it would not just be a simple button, it would require additional code and if only one or two people out of the many that use 3dsMax / Vray, request such a feature, while it may be added to the list, I very much doubt it will be anywhere near the top.

You made me realise i wanted this for a very long time. ^^
M for mirror along vertical middle, Shift+M along the horizontal one? Sticky if tapped, but non-sticky if held would be glorious.
yavor.rubenov is working flat out as things are, though.
We may need some patience, should they decide to implement it.

            Hey guys,

The time has come for this to be implemented relatively soon, so it needs to be cleared as functionality.

How do you plan to use it? Can it be a just a "view" button = flipping the image while holding the button? Or a permanent flip - which means way more complex logic for saving, flipping render elements, etc....?
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

                Hello Peter Matanov,
it would need to be permanently in my case.
It is really meant as a final render.
Sometimes scenes were used rendered mirrored – in lets say very „creative“ workflows.

(Doing this only afterwards makes it hard to judge lights and perspectives, because people read images from left to right.)
                Thanks

I've asked for this in the wishlist thread but I just wanted to add my two cents here on the matter.

While it would be nice to have the ability to save out the mirrored version of the final image/ rendered elements, I tend to mirror my images as a way to "reset" my eyes and check for a balanced composition.

So in my case I am constantly copying the image and flipping the RGB back and forth in photoshop very quickly. In my case I value the speed and interactivity.

In my use case, a simple toggle of the final result would suffice.
