  • DR remote control tool

I often times experience having to cancel a render before completion and the servers never return to idle at the same time, so I have to get up, walk half studio to them and come back... pretty annoying. Is there a way to build a tool that would reset the servers remotely, saving a bit of time and those extra calories I gain every day in front of the computer?!

    Cheers

      remote controll

      hy,

we use a small tool called "tight vcn" for remote access to all render servers in our office. I think, it´s freeware.

I create a small .bat files, to kill the spawner and automaticly restart
      spawner and 3dsmax.

create a textfile that contains the following script:

      "taskkill.exe /F /IM vrayspawner60.exe
      taskkill.exe /F /IM 3dsmax.exe
      start C:\3dsmax7\vrayspawner60.exe"

      without " "

and save it as f.e. "kill_restart_spawner.bat"

put it to the desktop on each renderserver.
now, you are able to kill the spawner and restart it by ONE mouseclick by remote access....

works fine for us since a lot of weeks....

      regards chris

Hey, that's awesome stuff, dude! I had never heard of this taskkill command, pretty useful.

The only problem is that (I'm not completely sure of this, but) the company I work at has just gone public and this means every software we use (not that it was ever any different) has to be registered, people have logins and passwords for the machines and network access, nothing can be installed or removed without the tech manager's aproval, not even the clock in the machines can be changed, you know what I mean? Imagine if install a remote control software, even though it may be free, in a couple machines in the studio?!?! I'd better install and run before I get my ass sued!

That's why I'm suggesting this as an integrated solution for Vray, because then it's functionality would be controled and part of a program that doesn't potentially interfere with other system features or user's activities.

Thanks a lot for the ideas, though, I might use it to control my computer at home! I used to be into VNC some years ago and just recently learned it went commercial.

        Cheers.

FYI, According to Natty, who has been using the new Vray build with the Fixed DR That problem is now non-existant. You can start and stop DR renders till the cows come home and things work flawlessly

So its just a matter of time. Till its publically released.

Yea, but Daforce, theres a big difference between fixed for a small testing group and fixed for everyone
