  • Vray 7 features - no AI? No Corona material compatibility?

Hi team Chaos, thanks for the new version 7 - looking great!

No major updates or addons - seems it's more about streamlining elements like scatter/vfb/etc.?
Gausian splats, VR Tours and profiler are probably the only "new" features introduced?

Was hoping for some AI enhancements in the new version - to compete with some of the other visualization software?
Seems like AI will form an important part of texture/image creation and to enhance the final output.

    Or am I just impatient?

I see the Vray converter was also updated - would love to be able to convert all Corona materials to Vray?
Usually just get a "missing map" message so the converter doesn't solve the fact that you have to re-texturize the entire Corona model?

Hi, we have the firefly remover. This is an amazing new feature that will save a lot of hassle for a lot of artists and visualisation studios. It is not AI based but still very nice.
Here is how it works and how to enable it (for bucket image sampler).

No, I feel you, as do a lot of people (at least the ones that surround me).

There are some nice additions (new sky model, firefly removal, updated converter, Multi region render,... GSsplats although not usefull in my case presently, but some people wanted it so there goes a couple of months of development time). Development is slow to say the least. Focus has shifted to more and other products I'm afraid (Enscape, Envision, etc), and the integration between all these require a lot of their time I feel. The core product isn't V-Ray anymore.

If the converter isn't converting like you think it should it, I suggest you poke ^Lele^ as I think he was responsible for writing most of the converter.

Are there plans to integrate this into the Progressive sampler?

        www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

I have only worked on the shader classes conversion functions (Corona legacy/physical, AD physical), and on some of the new tools (but those were already in the forum.).
My involvement for this release has essentially been advisory-only, I have actually written no lines of scripting: I've prepared documents collecting your wishes, proof of concepts for UI changes, and made vague suggestions as to how one or the other option should work, and lightly tested the script's UI.

But i can still collect bug reports and wishes, and comm with the right devs in your stead.

Not all maps are convertible, sadly.
Short of rewriting the same map/shader/light in V-Ray (which isn't always a possibility, as the two architectures couldn't be more different.), the best way forward when a part of a conversion fail is to keep the original part intact.

This said, feel free to send some sample scene my way, and i'll be able to tell you more about what fails, why and what we will be able to do about it if anything at all.

There are a couple if AI-related features in the works (like the AI Enhancer that was recently added to Enscape) that we hope to make available to V-Ray and Corona users soon.

            Best regards,

That's exactly what they will think. But that started already slowly when SketchUp was brought on the market. This segment of the market already make their own images, AI will just up their quality. But don't think of AI (for the moment) as the one click solution everyone think it is. If your input is shit, your output will not be a lot better. It's up to you to make the difference.

LOL, the tug of war between artists that ask for more AI and the ones side-eyeing it.
