  • VrayLightMtl limitations

Would it be possible to make the VrayLightMtl with more options in a future release? If it had reflective and refractive properties like a standard VrayMtl, it would be very helpful.

I am often working with "backlit" or "magically glowing" glass walls and desks for interior arch. visualization.

Vray materials are fantastic for glass, but not glass that must glow and cast light.

My current work-around is to self-illuminate an opaque standard material at about 50% and drop a fresnel falloff with Vray maps into the reflectance slot. And then to pump up the output, I drop it inside a VrayMtlWrapper and turn up the GI sent.

Or maybe there's a better way...

    Cheers.

Have U tried with a Shellac material ?

    Shellac : VRayMtl with reflections

        Candelero,

You are awesome. I thought I read that Shellac didn't work in Vray and haven't experimented with it. Your example is exactly what I was talking about. I am going to try it right now!

        Thanks,

        Aaron

Shellac works fine with Vray, the catch is that when rendering blend/mix type materials, Vray has to calculate everything twice, once for each sub material. So it can be a lot slower.

the next obvious question would be what the speed difference would by if you had your vray light in one slot and then the other slot has a vray material with reflection imbedded into a material wrapper in the other slot and have generate and recieve GI turned off on it. that way vrays only calculating gi info for only one material. not sure how that might work.

The VRayLightMtl will not make V-Ray trace twice.
