  • VERY simple but VERY important

As we all know when you work in this industry, you are often deprived of sleep, and therefore it is easy to make a stupid mistake... I just have.

When you render using the frame buffer and saving to a VRIMG file, it would be VERY nice if, like the max system, vray gave you a warning that you are about to overwrite a file if one already exists.

I just rendered out a 10 hour render, and then was setting up a new camera angle and doing a small test. I forgot to untick the save to file option and it imediately overwrote the file I had just completed. As a result of this silly mistake I will now miss the clients deadline.

So if you could put this little function in to help the sleep deprived that would be terrific.

    Thanks.

Yeah, that happened to me as well. But in my case it was because i opened somebody´s else max file and didn´t check this particular output. The same goes to the split g buffer channels, the irradiance map file and the light cache one. It would be good to have warnings for these critical outputs.

maybe even a message if you ticked "don't render final image".

Admittedly I turn it off quite often since I'm an arrogant bastard but deadline, the render manager from frantic has this really nice feature called "sanity check" which checks to see if file names are correct, all maps are there and output file saving is turned on - not a direct equivalent but something along the same thought...

Yes, a warning anytime you are about to overwrite a file. (IM, LC, proxy, etc)

                            I 'ninth' this.
