  • UVW Mapping Modifier Support

Support for UVW Mapping Modifier on Vray objects, primarily Vray Fur and Vray Plane. I'd love to be able to do spherical mapping on a Vray Fur object.

Doesn't the mapping go into the "Source Object" and not on the fur itself?
So, you could just apply it to an object with spherical coordinates?

Doesn't seem to work. Modifying the UVW mapping of the source object appears to have no affect on the Vray Fur.

      As a challenge, try this:

Create a sphere, apply Vray Fur. Now figure out some means of mapping it so that the roots of the Vray Fur are a different color than the tips.

A challenge indeed! At first I did not understand that what you wished is to map each fur hair!

But; first try on the challenge:

I'd like to see how you accomplished that, would you mind sharing screenshots of the map?

After much poking around, I was able to achieve something similar to those two results, untill I flipped around to the other side of the sphere and found out that it was all screwed up.

Just had a little trust in Vlado that he does things in an orderly and repeatable fashion. Made the sphere and applied a material to it. Then created the Fur agent inside the sphere and appied a material to it from the material editor click. Then selected the same Fur agent and Clone/Copy without moving it. Selected the clone and applied a different material.

What I did is just have fur-on-fur. The blue material is set thicker and not as long as the blond looking. Ingrown hairs!!!

              That's all,

                Ahh, I see... sneaky

But I don't think thats a good solution for what I'm trying to do becuase I'll be using quite a few of these fur object and that will just slaughter the rendertime

If you just want a gradient the easiest way is to make sure "generate W-coordinate" is checked then create a material with a gradient Ramp in the diffuse and set it's UVW soace to "WU" and apply the material to the fur. The gradient should be mapped along teach fur strand.

                    Yep, what RErender said.

                    Best regards,

Yep, much better solution! And an excellent tip that it is.

                      Regards,

That was the first thing I tried:

You can try "VW" instead of "WU". Also which V-Ray version are you using?

                          Best regards,

VW gives a similar result. I'm on 1.49.24

Right, there seems to be a bug with this in that version. Will look at it.
