    It would be great to see self-illumination option for vray material, like we have it in standard 3dsmax material. It would be really usefull

      There are some instances where they would really come handy. The need to recreate an old library is just one of them. Here's an old thread about self-illumation in vray.

        It is quite easy to get the exact same effect with a shellac with VRayMtl and VRayLightMtl.

          Yap but Shellac is kind of notorious for its slowness, will there be a difference in rendering speed? I have yet to try it though.

            Come on this is so clear thing! Every render does have self-illumination option. Sience max´s material editor isnt so user frendly it can handle very low count of levels when it will come very hard to control (example when u have multiple blends there already). Why do we wanna make it more complicated?

            I read the old thread about selfillm. for vraymtl. Seems that quite many ppl were also missing that option for vraymtl. I quess we have to just use shellac.

            I work every day with 3dsmax and I use a lot of vray. I posted this because our team were also wondering why vray dont have that option.

              This have been asked for over and over again but for some reason Vlado won't add this feature, such a shame.

                Vlado has said that adding a self-illumination channel to the VRay material would mean having to completely rewrite the VRay material. This would mean lots of bugs, headaches, and changes to how settings work.

                Doesn't mean it won't be an option when things eventually switch over to the standalone renderer sometime after 1.5
