  • Max Camera to VrayCamera converter

Would it be possible to have a script / functionality to convert a Standard Max Camera into a VrayCamera?

Kind of similar like we have the VraySceneConverter tool which converts MaxMaterials into VrayMaterials (and MaxRaytrace Shadows into VrayShadows etc.)

The reason why this would be a good feature would be for when you are using a Max camera generated by an external program - such as a match moving program which exports a camera & tracked motion - but you want to use some of the VrayCamera features such as exposure & vignetting. Particuarly if your lighting setup is dependant on your VrayCamera settings.

Could someone from ChaosGroup confirm whether this would be possible or not? I suppose really the only thing that would need to be converted or duplicated exactly would be the focal distance and lens info, given that the movement can be linked to dummy objects.

I'd imagine it'll be very easy - Vlado has exposed most of the properties for max so far so it should be a simple loop to go through the values.

There's a new camera in the works that has real world based controls like iso and f-stop - should be quite nice.

Thanks Joconnell. I was being a bit sarcastic. I was emphasizing that once again there is discussion about a topic that only beta-testers should know anything about, which puts the rest of us at a disadvantage.

Its pretty funny over at CGarchitect forums they forbid discussion of any features newer than 1.47.03 unless you are a beta tester. In fact if you ask questions about the newer builds you can be banned from the forum!

                    Good!

It stops people getting feature envy - I'm very greatful for getting a newer build than 1.47.03 to fix an error I was getting with particle flow (there were other more frequent bugs in the build so I'm back on 1.47.03) but aside from official announcements maybe it would have been better if they weren't discussed.

The cgarchitect things seems more about piracy than feature envy which is quite nice - I'm over on cgtalk quite a bit and one thing I like is that any vray topics that are a bit suspicious are pointed here first of all and if they're blatant pirate copies they get nothing - glad to see the users supporting the chaos guys.
