  • VrayGradient Ramp

An advanced Gradient Ramp which allows you to individually specify the materials within the ramp - for instance something that goes from a diffuse material to glass.

should be possible using the vrayblend material and linked gradients as blend masks...erm...i think :P

a floating point gradient ramp would be nice

you can have a floating point gradient ramp by adding vray color textures to the individual gradient colors. Didn't try it out though, but i guess it should work.
This signature is only a temporary solution

It does work by using vray colours as maps within the gradient, and as instinct said, a gradient plus a blend mat gives just the ability to fade entire materials instead of maps.

Second that about the VRayColor map.

              by adding vray color textures
By adding Vray Colors? I can only add diffuse swatch colors to the Gradient Ramp material.

Also, you probably can work around with the blend material but it would be nice if there was an easier way.

did you double click on the little swatch arrow on the gradient ramp?

yeah - that only brings up the max swatches - I'd like it to bring up vraymaterials (basically acting as a sub-mat blend.)

you seem to miss where the gradient goes: in a vray blend material BLEND slot, not as the father of the submats.
The other, separate, issue is with HDR gradients. It could be done with standard max output maps before, but with vray color maps is a LOT more straightforward and compact.

I'm not talking about the Vray Blend Material however - refering to a separate material that would be similar to the Gradient Ramp material which allows you to choose vray materials where the arrows would be (instead of color swatches)...

I'm sure Vray Blend Material could be an alternate workaround to this - but it would be nice to have the Gradient Ramp controls/slider (if possible.)

well the gradeint ramp is a map not a material....and erm...it does just that out of the box

Doubleclicking a colour flag opens the colour chooser, but via right click on a flag -> edit properties you can assign any max map to a flag. you can mix colours and textures, or textures only etc...am i missing something ?

mixing entire materials from the root?
I know how it is, thorst, took me a few posts as well

Sorry,,,but then i entirely miss the point....having a Material that has Materials stored in a gradient rampsĀ“ flags sounds pretty...erm...well.."complex" to use and tweak...let alone proper mapping etc, it would be pretty hard to tell wich flag has what mat, and what happens to flags that dont have a mat assigned ? Solid colour.... okay...off to a birthdayparty...am seriously confused anyways lol

Hmm. Someone mentioned a 'blend material' and the thread went in that direction I never talked about blend materials as I wasn't looking for a workaround (I generally hate workarounds.)

Will have to check that out. You can assign vraymtls that way? So I can go from a color to a metal to a Vray glass mtl rather easily?

How do map a normal gradient ramp? How do you tell which arrow has a diffuse color applied? What happens to a flag that doesnt have anything assigned as is?

I never said for this to an exact copy of the gradient ramp - somethings could be similar as a starting point then improved upon.
