I have found that with our busy network with nearly 500 people, that a scene with a saved IR map of 2-300MB renders significantly faster if the IR map is local. IT is in the process of putting in new swtches and the building is beign rewired with better cabling. I still have my doubts that this new network will be faster than having the file locally on each render node.
A little about our borrowed farm. We don't have the luxury of a dedicated farm. We render nights and weekends when nodes are available. Using VNC on our coworker's machines is not something IT wants to share with us. So we end up walking around to each machine and logging in with our own account. It is at this point that I copy the saved IR Map to the local machine using the proper path. This is tedious but the animation finishes quite a bit sooner.
I would dearly love for BB to include vray maps when I check the Include Maps button in the Network Render submission.
EDIT: I spoke with IT and they suggested that we could have a batch file that would copy the file over at startup... It still would be cleaner to have BB do it.
Any tips on this would be appreciated,
